Common questions

NRI tax, explained.

The Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement is a treaty between India and another country that decides which country may tax a given income, and lets you claim credit or relief so the same income is not taxed twice. The relief available depends on the specific treaty and your facts.
Your status for a year depends mainly on the number of days you spend in India, measured against the thresholds in the Income Tax Act. We work it out from your passport and travel dates, since it changes what income is taxable here.
TDS on a property sale by an NRI is deducted at rates set by the Act, which differ for long-term and short-term gains, plus applicable surcharge and cess. Where the deduction is higher than your actual liability, we can help you apply for a lower-deduction certificate.
Yes, within the limits and conditions set under FEMA and RBI rules, and after the tax on the sale has been dealt with. We prepare the required certification (such as Forms 15CA and 15CB) so your bank can process the remittance.
You can, but it is risky. The faceless system decides your case almost entirely on your first written reply, and a wrong section, a missed piece of evidence or a rushed admission is very hard to undo afterwards. Most people send us the notice first so a specialist can check it before anything is filed. That costs nothing and keeps your options open.
The deadline keeps running, interest and penalties build, and the department can decide against you without your side of the story, which can escalate into a demand, a penalty or a reopening of earlier years. If your deadline is close or has already passed, upload the notice now and we will tell you the best remaining option.
